How to choose the suitable type Sodium CMC

Sodium CMC is a kind of Cellulose Ether hydrocolloid which is made from natural cellulose(refined cotton or wooden fiber). It’s good emulsifier and thickener that can be used in food, detergent, ceramic, painting, paper making, and mining industries.

But there are more than 60 types of Sodium CMC based on different viscosity, purity and Degree of Substitution(D.S) etc. How to choose the suitable type Sodium CMC. Let’s introduce food grade Sodium CMC briefly now.

1. Firstly, we need to confirm which food we want to use CMC in ? Normally, There are ketchup, mayonnaise, salad, yogurt, ice cream, fruit beverage, tomato paste, jam, syrup and cake etc.

Food Grade Sodium CMC can be used in all the above food products well.

2. Secondly, please confirm the pH value of this food. If the food pH value is less than 5, we need to chose acid resistant type CMC with Degree of Substitution(D.S) above 0.9. eg:fruit beverage, tomato paste and yogurt etc. Otherwise, if the pH value is more than 5, we can use normal type CMC with Degree of Substitution(D.S) 0.7-0.9.

3. Thirdly, we need to notice your foods itself. Does your foods production have any requirement on raw materials particle size ? For example, if your food is capsule shape, it may ask for fine powder or coarse appearance. Currently, we can control the particle size at 20mesh, 60mesh, 80mesh and 100mesh according to customer’s request.

4. Finally, we must comply with legal dosage food regulation in your country. Sodium CMC(E466, CAS No.: 9004-32-4), you may check this commodity information in your country. China government stipulate max 1.5% dry total materials. If you want to use small dosage, we can provide you high viscosity CMC to reduce CMC dosage.
