Introduction of Cotton Linter

Cotton Linter is the most important raw material of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC), there are three classes cotton linter in the market based on staple length. Let’s introduce different types of cotton linters which can meet different types Sodium CMC production to you.

  1. First cut linter, staple length is over 13mm which is the highest quality, mostly used in high viscosity Sodium CMC production, like: food grade Sodium CMC, FH5000, FH6000, FH7000 etc.
  2. Second cut linter, staple length is below 13mm, and the proportion of less than 3mm cotton linter is less than 58%, mostly used in medium viscosity Sodium CMC, like: food grade CMC, FH2000, FH3000, FH4000 etc.
  3. Third cut linter, staple length is below 13mm, and the proportion of less than 3mm cotton linter is more than 58%, mostly used in lower viscosity Sodium CMC and mixed with wooden pulp, like food grade CMC, FH50, FH100, FH9, FH500, FH1000 etc.

To sum up, we can say that cotton linter quality will influence Sodium CMC quality directly and we must find high quality cotton without black particles, less moisture and abundant cotton linter as raw material. Otherwise, viscosity can’t meet customer’s requirement while black particles will be in Sodium CMC.
